Dear Terry,

thanks for this excellent blog post. We are constantly trying to improve our triathlon swimming training and now want to include quantifiable measures like SPL to our training (due to this post).

Thanks,
Oliver

Suzanne - If you blog on these practices I'd be really curious to see them from your perspective. An interesting complement.

Terry, these were fun sets, and I'm really glad we got to swim together. I'll just add that for me, 2 things that are most outstanding about these practices were #1) I actually swam not just several lenghts of butterfly, but 300 yards of it! (you noted 400, but I think it was 300). I don't think I've ever done that before, even in age group swimming as a youngster where fly was my default competition stroke. (I was too slow for free, except as an alternate).

The second, and equally impressive for me was that while I was trying to keep pace with you and Dave in the varied pace sets...I set a new personal record for 100 free of 1:27. I was shocked as the only thing I was thinking about was the speed of my recovery.

Thanks for sharing your mindsets here and going into your approach in detail, i'm sure it will be helpful for a lot of open minded swimmers looking for new ideas.
